As the old saying goes, “half of life is just showing up on time and wearing the right clothes.”
I used to dismiss that idea as preposterous. Surely there had to be more to success than that?!
When I became a teacher, I realized that that advice is actually pretty close to spot-on.
Students who follow the directions and turn things in on time every time are actually pretty few and far between. And there’s a direct correlation between those things and higher grades.
I tell my students this pretty frequently: if you follow the directions and turn things in on time, you almost can’t help but get at least a C. At least.
The 80/20 rule is the idea that 80% of your results comes from 20% of your effort. It’s the same basic concept.
Get those day-in-day-out basics down, find ways to be more efficient with your daily processes, and you’ll be already 80% of the way there.
