My students surprised themselves last week.
I assigned them a paper to write, a full essay in a week. Either 800 or 1000 word minimum (depending on honors or not).
At the beginning of the week there was much complaining: “Mr. Hart! I can’t write an essay in a week!” etc.
But they did, and most did quite well I might add.
I laid out a step-by-step thing and they followed it each day and got it done. Some days were pretty hard, granted. But it worked out in the end.
And just yesterday, a student said, “Not gonna lie, I’m kinda proud of myself. I didn’t think I could write a whole essay in a week.”
I was proud too.
See, you can do a lot more than you might think once you focus and get busy. You might surprise yourself, especially when you get in the habit of it.
Find a way to get focused and stay focused, break things down into manageable steps, and start attacking that to-do list that’s as long as a CVS receipt!
If you need help with that breaking-things-into-manageable-steps bit, hit me up. I have a group to help you with that exact thing (and others):
