Oatmeal Containers

My daughter — nine months old now — loves to shove everything in her mouth. At that stage and all that.

So, naturally, we’ve been finding things for her to play with that are okay to shove in her mouth.

A few days ago, we finished off the oatmeal. I saw the container, looked at the baby, and a little light bulb went off in my head.

Sure enough, after a quick rinse to knock off any oat crumbs, my daughter was playing with an empty oatmeal container, happy as can be.

Nine months ago, would I have thought of turning an oatmeal container into a toy? No.

Looking at things in a new light can give you a new perspective and new ideas. If you’re stuck on an assignment that requires you to be remotely creative, find a way to examine it from a new perspective.

Writing a short story and have kind of a “meh” idea? Change up the audience you’re imagining for it.

Stuck on a presentation? Brainstorm different analogies you could make.

Find a new perspective and you might realize that even an oatmeal container can turn into something neat.

Peace,

Maximilian Hart
